Stanley Cup Champions
Legend Rings partnered with VideoInABox to create a fully custom video box to showcase the Edmonton Oilers’ Stanley Cup Championship rings. This wasn’t just about packaging—it was about building a memorable unboxing moment that matched the pride and excitement of winning the cup. To start, we took our classic wooden video box and upgraded the design to make it feel even more premium and spacious. The depth of the box was increased from 3.5 inches to 4.5 inches, allowing more room for the ring and interior features.
We also added half an inch to both the lid and the base, which gave the box a sturdier feel and a stronger overall look. The box was built from MDF and painted in the team’s PMS blue, topped off with a smooth gloss finish that really made the colour pop. On the outside, the Oilers logo was featured front and centre, and each box had a unique white vinyl number label with “97”—a subtle but meaningful nod to the team, with each one personalised to make the experience feel exclusive.
Sports Video Packaging
Inside the box, the goal was to create an exciting and emotional moment as soon as it opened. A built-in LED light was placed right in the center of the interior lid and set to turn on automatically, shining directly onto the championship ring below. This spotlight effect instantly draws the eye and adds a dramatic touch to the presentation, making the ring feel even more special. It’s a simple feature, but one that makes a huge difference in how the box is experienced.
Above the ring, a 7-inch IPS video screen was installed with autoplay functionality, so the video begins the second the lid is lifted. The screen sits within an orange PMS suede panel and is framed by embossed logos for both the Oilers and Legend Rings. We kept the controls minimal, with just two buttons—volume up and play/pause—making the box easy to use without taking focus away from the message. We also removed the older “97” logo that used to sit beside the screen and replaced it with a clean, updated Oilers logo. The inside message simply reads “Stanley Cup Champions,” keeping things bold and timeless.
Luxury Packaging
The base of the box was carefully designed to hold the championship ring in a way that feels secure but also visually impressive. The interior sides and lower panel were lined in the same orange PMS suede as the screen area, tying the whole look together. A layered panel system was built into the base: the middle section was made of blue-painted wood, while the top panel—also orange—was shaped to perfectly cradle the ring in the center. This mix of color, texture, and structure gave the box a strong team identity and a clean, professional finish.
In the end, the final product didn’t just meet expectations—it helped create a full experience around receiving the championship ring. From the moment the box is opened and the video begins to play, to the LED spotlight illuminating the ring, every part of the design was made to celebrate the Oilers’ big win. It’s more than a display case—it’s a moment that players, staff, and fans can hold onto and relive anytime they open the lid.
